Total Futures are proud to support the great work of the Seashell Trust
Seashell is dedicated to providing a creative, happy, and safe environment for children and young people with complex learning difficulties and additional communication needs.
Here at Seashell, we offer a holistic approach with Seashell Royal School Manchester, Royal College Manchester, and our 17 home-from-home care houses, to provide a safe, supported environment. Our special needs residential schoolsprovide the best facilities and equipment, including sports, health, and well–being. Additionally, our facilities for special needs students provide many different ways for our students to explore their creativity, artistic pursuits and physicality.
Seashell focuses on the extended family that cares for each one of our students and residents. We understand the difference that can be made to all those connected lives, that is why we strive to include the whole family and the wider community in the life experience of our children and young people.
Principal of Royal College Manchester, Clare Sefton and Financial Controller, Claire Boyle, have challenged themselves to raise funds for an immersive space in the new College building. They are traveling to India to take on the Dalai Lama Himalayan Trek tackling 50 kilometres at 3000m of altitude!
Clare said: "The students at Seashell face adverse challenges on a daily basis and still achieve some amazing things. I want to push myself out of my comfort zone to show what we can achieve when we put our mind to it."
An immersive space is an incredible resource, ideal for creating scenario-driven environments where users are fully immersed within the space. So many students will benefit from this state of the art facility. It will allow learners to experience new situations in a controlled environment, reducing anxieties and promoting independence. Students on our sensory course will be immersed into new, exciting environments where they can have full control, practicing cause and effect. It will be life changing for many students.
Seashell supports children and young adults with complex learning difficulties, disabilities, and additional communication needs from across the UK. Seashell provides specialist education, care, and support for people aged from 4 to 25 years at their outstanding school and college, residential homes, and through supported living services and community facilities.
#TeamSeashell - we are Claire and Clare, both colleagues working at Seashell.
We see on a daily basis the tremendous work that is carried out at Seashell to support the children and young adults on site and in the wider community. To enable the charity to enhance it's services to some of society's most vulnerable children, young adults, and their families we have to raise funds to provide much needed equipment, activities and facilities.
A few years ago we decided to do just that and signed up to take part in the 'Great Wall of China Trek'. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 this event was cancelled.
After much deliberation we have decided on a new destination so will be taking on The Dalai Lama Trek in India which will take us through the foothills of the Indian Himalayas up to 4,000m! We will be away for 11 days to complete the five day trek, walking approximately 50km! This challenge is classed as 'challenging' but we are up for that challenge!
We will be raising funds to provide equipment for one of the sensory rooms in our new college building at the Seashell campus.
Any spare £'s you have to donate really will spur us on, especially during those 'tough times', we are sure there will be many! We are so grateful for any support that you can give us.
Keep an eye on our page as we will keep you updated on all of our training walks!
